Artist Kang Jeongeun creates objet and contemporary art from Korea Heritage.
Jeongeun Kang, an artist, creates objects and contemporary art while contemplating on the ‘usage’ that enriches contemporary people’s lives.
Based in Seoul, Kang is leading an experimental studio VONZ which has foundations in cultural research in Korean traditional culture and material, with consideration on contemporary humans’ habits and their origins. She is actively engaged in projects between the genre of art and design.
The intersection between the new and traditional materials brings compelling and unexpected results.
VONZ seeks to bridge the gap between the traditional crafts and the contemporary life style, by mixing and matching the techniques and materials from the past and the present, reinterpreting the traditional aesthetics to reflect the ampleness of the traditional crafts.
Moreover, Artist Jeongeun Kang’s deep self-reflection on materiality, such as color or texture, contributes to the creation of the authentic beauty of VONZ.
She wishes to deliver the message which enriches the in-depth relaxation and flourishing of life, by naturally conveying the artistic values of Korean tradition in everyday products.
Since 2018, VONZ concentrated on the combination of Ottchil (Korean lacquer) textures with glass, researching various textures of Ottchil by mixing tofu with modern industrial by-products (sawdust, roof tile dust, ceramic powder).
Her artworks and their interpretations are all created through her hands. Every VONZ product is created through intimate collaboration with professional technicians from small scaled workshops in Korea.
