MukWha is a traditional Korean painting method which only uses blank ink without any hues to express through different varieties of light and shade.
Traditionally, Ottchil (Korean lacquer) technique was typically used as an organic finish to preserve the skeleton, but this piece was developed by realizing a visual form that can only be expressed through the convergence between the clear glass and Ottchil.
By using the Ottchil technique, a visual reverse is created between the outer surface and the inner surface, embedding the effect of ‘MukWha ’ gradually spreading inside the clear glass as if it were ‘a piece of a Muk-Wha painting,’ expressing Korean mood.
This product is finished with a rough texture from the roasted wood dust, and with more than seven layers of [Ottchil] (Korean lacquer) technique, its “rough texture” gives [stability] when held in a hand. 묵화(墨畵)는 한국 전통적인 그림 그리기 기법으로 채색을 쓰지 않고 검정색만 이용하여 다양한 농도로 표현한 기법이다.
전통적으로 옻칠은 대부분 백골을 보호하기 위한 천연 마감 재료로 쓰였지만 오직 투명유리와 옻칠의 만남을 통해서만 구현할 수 있는 시각적인 형태로 발전시키고자했다.
Ottchil로 투명한 잔 안에 '먹'이 퍼지는 듯한' 한 폭의 묵화'를 담아내어 겉면과 안쪽면의 시각적 반전을 통해 한국적 무드를 표현하고 싶었다.
